Imagine you were a pioneer/settler in the mid 1800's sailing to an unchartered seas and land to settle a new area of Western Australia. On board were a couple of families, livestock (sheep, bullocks and horses) and the crew. In the dark of the night the ship hit a reef during a storm. A few people and livestock managed to get ashore, many of the prized animals drowned and the shipwreck is history now.
To mark that place of danger, a Lighthouse has been built on Jarman Island.
I lived in the Pilbara region of Western Australia immersed in vibrant colours of the history and landscape. The Lighthouse on Jarman Island was important to the development of the North West with historical significance, restored in 2003. The historic towns of Cossack and Roebourne exists because of a shipwreck near Jarman Island. The survivors were the first pioneers to this region and Roebourne was the first colonised town of the North West of Western Australia
